Season 3 Rankings - Pocket Scout
Season 3 Rankings - Pocket Scout
All of Asia's best players are pocket scout mains, there's no way around it. So, you can really bet that the pocket scouts this season were all spectacular. Here's the top five I chose from a huge pool of sensational talent and skill.
5. Flam - Korean Beefer
Korean Barbeque is one of my favorite things to eat. And at Korean Barbeque restaurants, my favorite thing to order is usually the beef. Cooking my own slices of beef, adding my own sauce and tasting it will always be the most sensational of experiences. Speaking of Korean beef, it's Flam, the pocket scout, leader and maincaller for Abusement Park. Going into the season, I thought of Flam as the weakest member on Abusement Park's core roster. He always seemed to beef the important shots, and I never saw him get over 60% accuracy. I never really thought of him as the maincalling type either, I figured that it would be some other more experienced player like Swift or Khronus. Despite this, Flam has proved himself to be a solid and competent Top 5 pocket scout player with this season.
Flam was the wildcard of Abusement Park going into this season. Although I didn't expect him to be good, and didn't know how he played, what his style was, or anything. Once the season started, I found that all too often Toxic would outperform him despite receiving drastically less heals. I simply put it down to a lack of mechanical skill. However, fast-forward to late regular-season, and Flam always made the right calls, his DM greatly improved and although he whiffed a few shots, it never seemed like he had bad aim and although his DM wasn't as good as some of the other pocket scouts on this list or in Division Three in general, his smart, selfless and protective playstyle gave Swift so much to work with. What stops him from moving up however, is his DM but with Flam moving on to Division Two, I expect great things.
4. Cabby - The Charity Against Hunger
Flam beefs, Drugs doesn't speak, and Gale drops. But Cabby feeds. He's like the grandma that won't stop giving you food even when you say you aren't hungry. Many a match I would witness Cabby run straight into four players and give them enough food for a month. It's impossible for me to know how much was Cabby getting hard baited by his team and how much was just a want to relieve the pain of the hungry, but all jokes aside Cabby played an extremely aggressive playstyle that complemented his pocket and demo well. D4LE played an aggressive playstyle, almost at times seeming like a second roamer, and Cabby was always there to follow up on his combo's damage.
Cabby's DM was always great, but what prevents him from moving up on this list is his inability to adapt well. Especially in the playoffs, RSL seemed to fall apart. Constantly changing rosters and Cabby getting hacked were huge hits to the Highlander mains. Cabby couldn't seem to get a break. His Medic would constantly abandon him mid-uber, but whenever they committed all the way he just seemed to transform into Flam and whiff everything. Overall, Cabby had a great regular season but RSL's showing in the playoffs stage was a disappointment to say the least, and with a better team and a Medic who trusts him Cabby could definitely transcend his feeding ways and become a top Scout.
3. Catkoi - Kinda sandy, kinda baggy
You know, I think all the cat-players should make a team. You would have a whole diverse range of skill, with Catkoi, k_1tty, Catman, Cats! and a bunch of other furries I'm not remembering right now. Catkoi would be one of the better players on the cat-team, and Catkoi was one of the better scouts this season. The Scout for TerraTakers, he provided the support that Deceptive's back every match. Just like Cabby, Catkoi's main strength was his DM. Just like the fact that he doesn't actually belong in Division Three, his DM was completely out of the league of the other scouts. He never failed to impress, consistently getting over 30+ frags per game.
Similar to Kron; Catkoi just didn't have the results to warrant a higher placement on this list. His team never really took off after Rustic bent them over, raped them in the ass and left them lying in the middle of the road with the events of yoshiSZN's ban and all matches being forfeited. Anyways, Catkoi stood out as a shining diamond in a sea of shit and that's why I placed him at number three.
2. jub - Child of the Wolf Gang
Jub was the Ron Tan of 2017 Division Three. Loud and squeaky, Jub never really seemed to take off, joining many different teams, but always seeming to watch them die right before his eyes. This all changed in 2020, when he found friends in the Wolf Gang. The wolves took him in, adopted him as their own, and gave him a brain. Pre-wolf gang, Jub was a hard-chasing DM Lord. When he saw a flash of the opposite team, his brain would shut off, instincts would take over, the call of the wild ran through his veins, and he'd run off like a stray dog. Once the wolves took him in, he was no longer a dog that would lose control, he learnt to resist the urges to chase and as a result, he became an amazing pocket scout.
Jub, like his teammate Alpy, is highly talented and mechanically gifted. After joining Krankenwagen, he learned to play with his team, protect his Medic and effectively follow up on Alpy's borderline-pornographic amounts of damage. Jub's newfound decision-making ability, combined with his already monstrous DM allowed him to at times; go god-like and solo the opposing team with just himself and an Uber. Jub's DM allowed Catman to trust in his team and play so aggressively that Krankenwagen were always applying pressure. Like 4B, I can't really say there were any problems with Jub's play, and most of the time, Jub stood out as the playmaker over 4B. But despite this, Jub wouldn't have been able to do all the work he did without such a good demo by his side. This is why I placed Jub at number two, because someone accomplished even greater heights without the same advantage of such a good Demoman. And that player is the one and only Tissueman.
1. Tissueman - 25 Health Idiot
Watching the ABNA Black match against RSL from Tissueman's POV was like watching a Clockwork frag movie. It looked like something you would see on the gay side of PornHub. MALAYSIAN MAN BENDS OVER SIX ASIANS AND FUCKS THEM HARD (POV). Tissueman was the replacement for Drugs in W7, and he never failed to impress. His strength was the way he supported his team in both protecting the Medic and by killing anything that even brushed past meatshot distance.
That's not to say that Tissueman didn't have good DM - he did. His DM was actually on-point, best characterized the time he 1v4'd RSL on 25 health. It was something you would see from a legendary scout like Shrugger, and Tissueman consistently pulled out feats of extreme DM. Despite this, Tissueman really shined through his selfless play. He never left his Medic's side and always made sure Gale was safe. Had Gale not been able to put so much trust in Tissueman, I don't know what would have happened to ABNA Black as there would be many more times where Gale would have had to force or even drop. This is why Tissueman is number one, because of both his extreme DM but smart, selfless play that puts him above players like Jub and Catkoi.
